Support to farmers' organizations for a valorization of agricultural value chains

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:
Conributing to poverty reduction in three rural communities.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:
Supporting agricultural producers' associations for improving agricultural value chains.

PROJECT AREA:
Wack Ngouna, Toubacouta and Léona rural communities.

The project has three sub-projects:

1. Diversification and intensification of agricultural production in the rural community of Wack Ngouna

COMPONENTS
:

  • Capacity building of the farmer-based organizations in the management of the agricultural networks and their roles at the level of the local committee for consultation of the farmers’ organizations and the rural Council;
  • Intensification and diversification of productions through better access to resources and production means;
  • Value increase of food and horticultural production and of the income of vulnerable target groups through the establishment of a polyvalent conditioning center, transformation and market access.

BENEFICIARIES:
The project targets 25 villages, reaching approximately 3000 people.

2. Support to fishing network in the rural community of Toubacouta

COMPONENTS:
  • Technical and organizational capacity building of fishermen and women dealing with fish;
  • Processing better value addition of fishing products through processing and better access to fishing tools;
  • Improvement of conservation systems, storage and commercialization of processed products.

BENEFICIARIES:
300 fishermen and almost 500 women grouped in 20 Groups of Economic Interest (GEI) involved in value addition, processing and commercialization of fishing products.

3. Commercialization improvement of market garden produce, mainly onion, in the rural community of Léona


COMPONENTS:
  • Capacity building of processors and their associations in terms of marketing and decision making;
  • Improvement of storage, conservation, commercialization and cooling conditions of the produce through the construction of storage facilities and a cooling center;
  • Coordination of the sub-project to complement other activities developed in the community.


BENEFICIARIES:
Associations of market garden producers.
